Finding a traditional, sit-down Chinese restaurant in Toms River these days feels like hunting for a needle in a haystack. It seems like almost every spot in town has completely surrendered to the takeout only model, so when my dad and I spotted Peking Chinese Restaurant on Highway 37 boasting an actual dining room, we thought we had hit the jackpot. We were thoroughly looking forward to a nice, relaxed sit down dinner together rather than eating out of plastic containers in the car or taking it back home. Parking right out front was a breeze, but the optimism faded the second we stepped through the front door. The restaurant was surprisingly dark, and a one section of the dining room floor was mysteriously covered in spread out cardboard from boxes. Hoping anyway, we grabbed a couple of menus and waited by the hostess stand, fully prepared to be seated. That was until a staff member walked up to break the news. Peking no longer offers dine in service at all and operates strictly for takeout. I have been ordering here for years. I am disappointed that the recipe for the fried wontons has changed, not for the better. They shell is NOT the same, and the meat portion is only pea sized!

The food here is delicious! You can tell they really put their best ingredients and care into their food. The owner is very sweet! I recommend the bone in spare ribs. Best I have had in the area. There is no indoor seating so it’s just for take out.

The woman that works the cash register is super nice and caring. She genuinely seems to care about learning and speaking with repeat customers. The food is great and affordable especially with their family style meals. Great for a group to try different things. Cannot recommend this place more. I can't help but feel like the folks who leave bad reviews for this place are mistaken or found the wrong spot. Mind boggling that anyone would have bad things to say about the place 🤷‍♂️

Walked in with good expectations. First off the service was excellent. The wonton and tea were very good. Chicken in the garlic sauce was a little tough. Sauce was okay. General tso sauce was okay as well but the cuts of the chicken were less than expected, and the fried rice was bland.
